25,000 dollars raised for Oklahoma teen's mobility van

DeKharai sits in a hospital bed, March 22.

DeKharai is an Oklahoma teen with total quadriplegia - he is unable to move, requires constant medical attention, and it takes three caretakers to move him in and out of the family's current vehicle. With a busy schedule full of medical appointments, mobility is key for DeKharai and his family. His mother, a full-time, stay-at-home caregiver who quit her job with a local nonprofit to care for DeKharai, reached out for help raising funds for a new vehicle.

The community has shown an outpouring of support for the DeKharai's family, with the full $25,000 raised on LaunchGood, a Muslim-centered crowdfunding website, in just six days by 500+ generous donors. The fundraiser was a partnership between Surayya Anne Foundation of Tulsa and of Oklahoma City, but donors across the world pitched in to help DeKharai. This Eid, the family will be able to afford a new handicap-accessible van.
