The 2012 Paragon Awards Event and 25th Anniversary Celebration was held on Oct. 11 at the Greenwood Cultural Center. Fifteen individuals nominated for the Paragon Awards were honored with the Star Awards, followed by the announcement of this year’s Paragon Award winners. Six in the Morning co-host LeAnne Taylor was the emcee for this year’s event and the honorary chair was Tom McKeon, Tulsa Community College president and a past president of Leadership Tulsa.
The Paragon Awards is a yearly event where Leadership Tulsa celebrates and honors the outstanding achievements of its members who have demonstrated extraordinary talents, commitment and vision in serving the community. 2012 Paragon Award winners were announced at the event:
Pam Carter was nominated by Chamber Music Tulsa for her fundraising, marketing, and educational efforts. Thanks to her visionary and effective leadership, CMT is well positioned to continue presenting the world’s best chamber ensembles in concerts and education activities for decades to come.
Tim Colwell was nominated by the Rotary Club of Tulsa Foundation for his leadership on a five-year centennial project to bring five bronze sculptures and a granite monument to Rotary Plaza in downtown Tulsa. Under his leadership, the $1 million gift of public art was dedicated this year.
Allison Moore was nominated by the Surayya Anne Foundation for her work as the main coordinator for fundraising, facilities acquisition and management, and board development. Allison created a support group and then helped grow that into a shelter and social service organization for people in need.
These winners received a beautiful etched glass award and their nominating agency received a check for $3,000 made possible by Founders of Doctors’ Hospital.
Other 2012 Star Award Winners and Paragon Nominees were: Calvin Battle, nominated by the Tulsa Dream Center; Teresa Burkett, nominated by the Mental Health Association in Tulsa; Mike Esmond, nominated by Tulsa SPCA; Val Fimbres, nominated by the Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges; Debbie Givens, nominated by Tulsa Global Alliance, the Jewish Federation and Counseling & Recovery Services of Oklahoma; Paula Huck, nominated by Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits and Domestic Intervention Services (DVIS); Jan Keim, nominated by Volunteer Tulsa, Inc.; Phil Lakin, Jr., nominated by Tulsa Zoo Management, Inc.; Jim Light, nominated by Volunteers of America of OK; Karen MacCannell, nominated by JAMES, Inc. and Women Empowering Nations; David Stratton, nominated by the Margaret Hudson Program; and Nichole Bostian Trantham, nominated by Camp Fire USA Green Country Council.
